ME 357: CAD PROJECTS
During the Fall semester of my sophomore year, I took ME357 or Introduction to CAD and Machine Components. This class consisted of learning the basics of Solidworks and was completed through multiple projects. Here are a couple of the projects that were worked on.
The first project was a "CAM Project" where I essentially modeled a drawing sent by my Professor. This one was straightforward and mainly included a lot of extrusions.
Similarly, the second project also involved modeling an existing drawing. However, this one was a tad bit more complex because of the number of holes that had to be added. Checking my work to ensure that the correct holes were added was very important because one incorrect number can make your drawing look very different from the original.
As for the other projects, I had to create a four bar linkage, accompanied with a motion analysis.
The "weather-themed" linkage assembly consisted of four components: the base, crank (input), rocker (output), and coupler. The base is fixed horizontally and does not move. The crank (input) rotates a full 360 degrees. The rocker (output) rotates between the angle of 0 to 180 degrees. Finally, the coupler connects the crank and rocker. The lengths of the longer bars (base and coupler) equal to two inches and the length of the shorter bars (cranker and rocker) are both equal to one and a half inches. As a result, the configuration type of the linkage assembly is a parallelogram. To accessorize, multiple shapes in the shape of a sun, cloud, raindrop, and snowflake were screwed onto the linkage. After assembling all components together, a motor was added to move the linkage in a 360 degree rotation. In addition, a trace curve was added to the output to provide a quantitative description of what was occurring in motion.
The final project involved creating a gear assembly, accompanied with a motion analysis, but unfortunately I cannot find the file for it :(.
